GENEROUS MARIA
Live @ Pusterviksbaren
Gothenburg, Sweden
May 2, 2001

This gig took place at Pusterviksbaren during a small culture festival (with everything from poetry to all sorts of music)... The name of the festival was, if I remember it right, ”The Sky’s Gone Out To Lunch” (or something similar)... I didn’t pay that much attention since I just went there to check out Generous Maria.

Generous Maria got a great stoner groove going as soon as they hit the stage... first song out was ”A Bed At The End Of The Universe”, which is one of the tunes that’ll end up on their upcoming first fullenght album... whenever it´s ready for release... Whatever, it’ll be worth the wait... if you like the tunes outta the split CD-EP with Skua that Alone Records (Spain) released a while back, then you’ll love the new ones... Anyways, great tune to start the set with...

The next tune was ”Strict Nurse” from the split CD-EP... and that tune really rocks... even better live...

Generous Maria played a lot of new tunes, and judging from this live performance we will be in for quite a ride when the fullength hits the stores. You can’t improve much on the stoner groove of tunes like ”Anchorage & Quito” and ”Big Shiny Limo”... good tunes, that turns even better with that energy you can only get outta a live performance...

After this came the best song ever penned by the boys in Generous Maria... ”All Units Are Out”... kinda laidback, but still plenty heavy, with all the right psychedelic touches... the kinda tune where you just wanna take a toke and float away... Man, what a great tune...

”Dumdum Bullet” almost have to much energy... talk about a fuzz overdose... It´s immediately followed by ”All Good Things” which is a tune that almost have mainstream hit potential, but then again I won´t hold my breath waiting for a ”stoner” tune hittin´ the lists...

I waited to long before I wrote this review (haven’t had time `til now, been workin´ on a big feature from the ”Rock I Dalen” festival), but this meant I had no recollection on how the last two songs sounded... and I didn’t have any way to remind myself either since non of these tunes have made their way into my collection...

Now I’m just waitin´ in anticipation on the fullength album... should be a great one judging from the tunes I’ve heard so far...
