Generous Maria Command of the New Rock Abstract Sounds As rock music continues to return to the mainstream with a vengeance, Generous Maria proclaims that they are in Command of the New Rock. At first I laughed a little bit at the title but after listening to the album it’s obvious that Generous Maria can back it up! This is tough rock and roll, the kind that is hard to ignore, no matter what style of music you like. Generous Maria deliver an album armed to the teeth with riff heavy guitars, distorted basslines, and odd drum patterns. Musically this is reminiscent of late 60’s/70’s hard rock gods like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin and new rock and roll icons like Sir Hedgehog and Spy Glass Blue’s more recent material. In other words, there is no shortage of lead guitar licks and solos in Generous Maria’s songs. The only downside I have found to this record is that after awhile, the songs seem to mix together because the songs don’t really change up that much soundwise. It’s almost like they just set up their equipment, sat down to record, and kicked it out for an hour, some people will dig that more than others. If you are a fan of bands that can jam then you definitely want to check these guys out! Key Song: Ashram of the Absolute
